Exercise in handling fire extinguishers
Aim of the exercise: Participants should learn how to use fire extinguishers safely so that they can act quickly and effectively in the event of a fire. After the exercise, participants should be able to safely and confidently use a fire extinguisher correctly and effectively.
DGUV specifies that the exercise should be carried out once a year in combination with evacuation.
Fire extinguisher exercise procedure
Introduction
- Welcome and brief explanation of the aims of the exercise.
- Theory: Basics of firefighting, fire classes and the function of various fire extinguishers (water, foam, CO₂, powder).
- Safety instructions: Distance from fire, personal protective equipment and behaviour in an emergency.
Demonstration
Demonstration by the instructor:
- Correct holding and operation of a fire extinguisher.
- Application of the „P.A.S.S. method“ (Pull - Aim - Squeeze - Sweep):
1st pull: Pull the locking pin.
2nd Aim: Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.
3. squeeze: Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
4th sweep: Guide the extinguishing jet over the fire in even movements.
Practical exercise
- Participants practise using the fire extinguisher at a realistic training station.
- Use of practice fire extinguishers or simulators with controlled fire.
- Guidance from the trainer to avoid mistakes and increase effectiveness.
Debriefing
- Feedback on the participants' performance.
- Answering questions.
- Reminder of the importance of regular exercises and maintenance of fire extinguishers.

How long does a course last?
Our first aid course lasts ca. 1-2 hours, depending on the size of the group and the scope of the practical exercises. It offers a balanced mix of theory and practical exercises.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, after successful participation in a course you will receive a official certificate, which confirms participation and the content taught. This certificate is DGUV-compliant and fulfils the legal requirements.
What if I have no previous knowledge?
No problem! Our courses are for participants of all experience levels suitable. Our experienced trainers convey all content in an easy-to-understand and practical way so that you are optimally prepared.
Is the course DGUV-compliant?
Yes, our courses comply with the current DGUV guidelines and fulfil the requirements of the employers' liability insurance associations and accident insurance funds. Our DGUV authorisation number is 8.2083.
DGUV-compliant first aid training requires the completion of 9 teaching units of 45 minutes each in classroom format. This ensures practical training and compliance with all legal requirements.
